‘The School For Good And Evil’ Recruits Laurence Fishburn And Michelle Yeoh

Laurence Fishburn from Blackish, Michelle Yeoh from Crazy Rich Asians to star in 'The School For Good And Evil'
ABC/Disney – Warner Bros. Pictures

Netflix’s upcoming adaptation of The School For Good and Evil has added Laurence Fishburn and Michelle Yeoh to its cast.  Fishburn will play The Schoolmaster (Rafal Mistral), a terrifying force that threatens the children, while Yeoh portrays the Beautification teacher Professor Emma Anemone.

Sofia Wylie (High School Musical: The Musical – The Series) will portray Agatha and Sophia Anne Caruso (The Sound of Music Live!) plays her best friend Sophie.

Here is the film’s synopsis:

Best friends Sophie and Agatha are about to discover where fairytale legacies go to school: the School for Good and Evil, where ordinary boys and girls are trained to be fairy tale heroes and villains. With her princess ambitions, Sophie knows she’ll be picked for the School for Good and join the ranks of past students like Cinderella and Snow White. Meanwhile, Agatha, with her grim aesthetic and wicked cat, seems a natural fit for the villains in the School for Evil. Yet soon the girls find their fortunes reversed: Sophie is dropped into the School for Evil, Agatha into the School for Good. But what if the mistake is the first clue to discovering who Sophie and Agatha really are? Their friendship will be put to the test in this thrilling and comedic story where the only way out of a fairy tale is to live through one.

Charlize Theron portrays Lady Leonora Lesso, the Dean of the School for Evil, and Sophie’s mentor. Kerry Washington will play Professor Clarissa Dovey, the Dean of Good, and Agatha’s Fairy Godmother. (She was also Cinderella’s.)

The School For Good and Evil will be directed by Paul Feig (the Ghostbusters reboot) with a script by David Magee (Life of Pi, Mary Poppins Returns, Finding Neverland) and Laura Solon (Office Christmas Party, Let It Snow). The film is based on the novel series by Soman Chainani, implying that Netflix is eyeing this to kick off a franchise.

Fishburn recently narrated Netflix’s mockumentary Death to 2020 and can be seen regularly as “Pops” on black-ish. He appeared in Quibi’s Emmy-winning #FreeRayshawn and in the popular John Wick film series.

Yeoh recently wrapped Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. She is currently shooting the Avatar sequels and can be seen as Emperor Philippa Georgiou on Star Trek: Discovery. She most recently appeared in the Hulu movie Boss Level.

The School for Good and Evil is expected to be released sometime in 2022.  Check back for updates as they arrive.
