In case you needed a reminder that Dolittle was a turd, it is among the top “honorees” at this year’s Golden Raspberry Awards or “Razzies.” It is tied with Polish erotic flick 365 Days (originally 365 Dni) with six nominations.
The Razzies annually shines a light on the worst films of the prior year. In the past, this was tied heavily to the Oscars, which honor the best movies of the year, with this ceremony held on the Saturday night before the Oscars on Sunday. The Oscar nominees will be announced Monday, so this list arrives right on time.
Both Dolittle and 365 Days are up for Worst Picture, against Absolute Proof (a documentary made by MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell, which claims the 2020 election was rigged), Blumhouse’s low-budget Fantasy Island, and Music (a heavily criticized movie that dealt poorly with autism, directed by pop singer/songwriter Sia). Those other three films are also nominated in multiple categories.
Perennial Razzies punching bag Adam Sandler and his Netflix comedy Hubie Halloween are also up in multiple categories.
Speaking of punching bags, the DC Universe hasn’t fared too well in the past… deservedly so in some cases. Wonder Woman 1984 is up for Worst Remake, Rip-off, or Sequel, and Kristen Wiig is nominated for Worst Supporting Actress. I don’t know that Wiig was awful, per se, but that Cheetah CGI was WORSE THAN CATS which swept the last Razzies.
This year, the Razzies are presenting a “Special Governors’ Trophy” to the year 2020 for “The Worst Calendar Year EVER.”
If things go according to plan, the winners will be announced right before the Oscars. Although… what really came out last year? Is Birds of Prey going to be up for Best Picture against Trolls World Tour? Was there ANYTHING? Thank God for streaming.
