The History Channel is going to the final frontier with an 8-episode docu-series The Center Seat: 55 Years of Star Trek, a behind-the-scenes look at one of sci-fi’s most venerable franchises that promises to be “the ultimate deep dive into the world of Star Trek.”

2021 marks Star Trek‘s 55th anniversary. Center Seat will go behind-the-scenes to examine important moments in the program’s long history. Beginning with the original 1964 pilot, “The Cage, through the newest series on the Paramount+ streaming service, there is plenty of history to go through. Each episode will feature interviews with the cast, designers, directors, and pop culture experts from the world of Star Trek. Even the biggest Trek fan may learn something new. Expect them to explore every corner of the Star Trek Universe, even the 1970s animated series.

The series will be produced by The Nacelle Company. Brian Volk-Weiss created and directed the series. He is also the Nacelle Company’s founder and CEO. They are the same folks who brought us The Toys That Made Us, That Guy… Who Was in That Thing, and A Toy Store Near You.

According to Volk-Weiss:

Star Trek, from before I was 10 years old, gave me the closest thing I have to code to follow in my life. If it wasn’t for the words ‘I don’t believe in the no-win scenario,’ I’d be very alone, broke, and miserable in this world. So to say this is a passion project would be a tremendous understatement.

Ian Roumain, the producer of The Movies That Made Us, serves as showrunner and executive producer for The Center Seat. Also, executive producing are Gates McFadden, (better known as Doctor Beverly Crusher in Star Trek: The Next Generation), along with Cisco Henson (Coming to the Stage) and Mark Altman (Castle, The Librarians, Inglorious Treksperts).

So what do you think?  Is there still some things unknown from Star Trek‘s history?  Or has that entire universe been explored more than the Alpha Quadrant? Tune in later this year to find out.
