It’s been quite some time since we last saw the G.I. Joe franchise in live-action, but now the brand is getting ready to make its comeback in a big way! We already knew we are getting a live-action film franchise reboot this October with Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins (2021), but now it looks like we are also going to be getting an all-new live-action television series focusing on everyone’s favorite female undercover operative of the G.I. Joe team, Lady Jaye!

Deadline recently broke the news that G.I. Joe‘s Lady Jaye has her very own television series currently in development at Amazon. The series, which is coming from Paramount Television Studios, eOne, and Skydance Television, is being described as “a standalone story centered around Jaye, which will also connect to the larger G.I. Joe universe.

As far as how exactly it will connect to the “larger G.I. Joe universe” is unclear at this time. Does that mean that the series will connect back to the previous films in the G.I. Joe franchise, G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra (2009) and G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013)? And if it does, does that mean we will see Adrianne Palicki (The Orville) returning to the Lady Jaye role she previously played in Retaliation?

It seems more likely that the series will be set up to connect to the upcoming film franchise reboot that is set to star Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians) as the titular hero, Snake Eyes. As Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins (2021) is about to recast multiple characters that have appeared in previous entries of the G.I. Joe film franchise, it would make much more sense to recast Lady Jaye as well and connect the series to the latest film under the brand’s belt.

There is already a second G.I. Joe film in development that is being viewed as “not quite a sequel but rather an expansion to take audience goers deeper into the world of Joe”, so there are absolutely world-building plans in place.

The yet-to-be-titled Lady Jaye-centric series will be headed up by showrunner, executive producer, and creator Erik Oleson, who is currently showrunning the second season of Carnival Row for Amazon. Lorenzo DiBonaventura, who was a producer on the previous G.I. Joe live-action projects, will also be executive producing this new Lady Jaye series.

Fan-favorite G.I. Joe undercover agent made her debut in the classic 1984 G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero animated series before joining the action figure line and making her way into the G.I. Joe comic book stories and earning her place in Joe history.
