Guillermo Del Toro‘s Pacific Rim franchise is about to make its return this week with the premiere of the all-new Netflix original anime series Pacific Rim: The Black! This new chapter of the Pacific Rim series is the first made for the small screen and promises to keep all of the big screen kaiju-sized action we have come to expect.

The new series follows a pair of siblings that are seeking their long-lost parents and instead, find themselves piloting their parents’ old Jaeger mech across the barren wasteland formerly known as Australia. The continent has become a hostile landscape overrun by Kaiju and other threats that are going to make our heroes’ journey to find their parents a perilous one. The series is set to take place after the events of Guillermo Del Toro’s original Pacific Rim (2013) and its sequel Pacific Rim: Uprising (2018) which came from Steven S. DeKnight.

You can check out the new trailer below!

This new trailer gives us our first look at the series protagonists and their new Jaeger, Atlas Destroyer! The all-new Jaeger looks to be based on a new design that takes its cues from some of the lead designs seen in the hit film franchise. It certainly brings a new twist to the story that the Jaeger our heroes are piloting once belonged to their long-lost parents.

It also gives us our first look at the series villains, who are… shockingly human? The Kaiju apparently aren’t the only threat as there are some mysterious businessmen who seem like they’re absolutely up to no good based on what we’ve seen in the trailer. While evil and mysterious businessmen aren’t exactly a new thing to anime, it will be the first time they’ve been antagonists in the Pacific Rim series which has been predominantly facing off against giant monsters.

The new Netflix original anime series Pacific Rim: The Black premieres on Netflix on March 4, 2021.
