New Image Reveals The Cast Of ‘Star Trek: Prodigy’

A new image has arrived offering the first look at the cast of Star Trek: Prodigy, a new animated series that will be shared between Paramount+ and Nickelodeon. Kevin and Dan Hageman (Trollhunters and The Croods: A New Age) act as co-showrunners. Star Trek: Prodigy focuses on a group of “lawless” teens who discover an abandoned Starfleet starship and embark on a series of adventures.

Unfortunately, no names or any other information was provided to go along with the image, but the most notable thing is that there is not a single human among the main cast.  They’re all aliens.

Check them out below:

This is definitely something new for Star Trek. This motley crew includes aliens and creatures that aren’t even remotely human-looking. These characters look as though they would be right at home on the fringes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Paramount knows that the audience for Star Trek: Prodigy has probably never seen a single Trek series or movie. This is an attempt to land a new generation that will hopefully grow up to be fans of the franchise as a whole.

Paramount+ programming chief Julie McNamara stated:

“It’s a great way to expose children to ‘Star Trek,’ who may be on Nickelodeon to watch other franchises.”

Star Trek: Prodigy will connect to the larger Trek continuity by including Kate Mulgrew as Captain Kathryn Janeway, reprising her role from Star Trek: Voyager.

Star Trek: Prodigy was originally developed for Nickelodeon, but as Paramount prepares to launch Paramount+, which is basically an update of CBS All Access (or a replacement), things have been shuffled. Though an exact premiere date wasn’t announced, Star Trek: Prodigy will debut on Paramount+ sometime later this year. There will be ten episodes and it sounds as though, like the existing Trek shows, they will be released one per week.  Once it has completed its run on Paramount+, then it will be made available on Nickelodeon.

What do you think about this new animated take on Star Trek?  Check back for updates as they arrive.
