The proposed new Wonder Girl series won’t be happening, at least not at the CW.
Whether it was due to lack of schedule space, resources, or just one comic book series too many for the network, who can say? The CW lineup is already packed with comic properties and superheroes much more well known and Wonder Girl was to be a brand new character.

The new take on the character was created by Joëlle Jones. Yara Flor is a young girl from Brazil who discovers she is the daughter of an Amazon and a Brazilian River God. She first appeared in a cameo at the end of Wonder Woman Annual #4. Yara first appeared as Wonder Woman (as part of DC’s Future State event) at the end of Dark Knights Death Metal #7, as well as her own Wonder Woman Future State mini-series. Her Wonder Woman is also a part of the Future State Justice League.
The original Wonder Girl, Donna Troy, featured prominently in the DC Universe/HBO Max Titans series. Cassie Sandsmark, the second Wonder Girl in the comics, appeared recently in the Young Justice series (both the comic and cartoon).
The series, written by Queen of the South executive producer/co-showrunner Dailyn Rodriguez, would have been produced by her and Berlanti Productions. Greg Berlanti produces pretty much every other DC television series.
Rodriguez tweeted the news of the series not happening:
So some sad news. For all of those asking, Wonder Girl is not getting picked up at the CW. I was very proud of the script I wrote. Wish I could’ve shared the world I created, but unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be. Thanks for everyone’s enthusiasm. It meant a lot to me.

Don’t think this news means that The CW moving away from comic book content. While they passed on Wonder Girl, they put in a pilot order for Naomi, a character created by Brian Michael Bendis. The series is produced by Ava DuVernay. There is also a Black Lightning spinoff in the works, Painkiller. The CW also ordered a pilot for a live-action Powerpuff Girls series.
Are you upset that Wonder Girl will not move forward?
