We hope you’ve got your Scooby-Snacks ready because Velma Dinkley is back and ready to get Jinkie with it in her very own adult-oriented animated series for HBO Max!

The iconic mystery-solving maven Velma Dinkley is heading to Warner Bros HBO Max subscription streaming service in an all-new animated spinoff from the Scooby-Doo franchise. The show is being planned as an “adult animated series”, which means it is going to be closer in style and tone to shows like Rick And Morty, Family Guy, or HBO Max’s own Harley Quinn. It sounds like our little Velma has grown up quite a bit from her Hanna-Barbera roots!

The new show, which is simply titled Velma, is set to tell the origin story of Scooby-Doo‘s bespectacled brainy mystery solver. The series is said to give a truly original take on the character and provides insight into her colorful past and lead up to how she became the brains behind Mystery Inc! Unfortunately, there is yet to be any word as to whether we can anticipate seeing any of the rest of the Scooby Gang like Daphne, Fred, Shaggy, or Scooby-Doo, in this new comedy series.

Velma is set to star Mindy Kaling (The Office) as our titular heroine, who will also be serving as executive producer alongside fellow The Office alumni Charlie Grandy and Howard Klein, and Sam Register of Warner Brothers Animation.

Velma Dinkley has a long and storied history, having first appeared in Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? in 1969. The character appeared off and on throughout various animated Scooby-Doo animated series and films being voiced by a number of different voice-actors including Nicole Jaffe, Pat Stevens, B.J. Ward, Mindy Cohn, and Gina Rodriguez amongst others. Velma Dinkley was brought to life for the first time by Linda Cardellini in two theatrically released live-action films, Scooby-Doo (2002) and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (2004), and then again by Hayley Kiyokoand Sarah Gilman in several straight-to-DVD live-action films.

If Velma is anything like some of the other adult-oriented original comedy series currently featured on HBO Max, fans that grew up on Scooby-Doo are going to be in for a real treat with this one. Currently, there is no release date information for the series, but we will be sure to keep you updated as more information becomes available.
