Sadly, for fairly obvious reasons related to a certain global pandemic that has been going around, the New York Toy Fair was cancelled for 2021. The event that is typically held in February at the Javits Center in New York City is a week-long trade show where all the major players in the toy industry show off their new products for the coming year. The cancellation of this event thankfully hasn’t slowed down the team at Funko, who decided to host their own online event simply dubbed ‘Funko Fair‘!
The Funko Fair event occurred over the course of the last week and has finally concluded with over 300 new Funko items announced. Funko announced new collectibles for almost all of their currently active toylines including POP! Vinyl, Mystery Minis, Pocket POP! Keychains, Funko Soda, Plushies, Action Figures, and more!
In Part 8 of our massive Funko Fair 2021 Wrap Up, we are taking a look at some of the great new collectibles based on top animated licenses for both kids and adults! Animation is enjoyable for everyone, so Funko has managed to provide a few great pieces for collectors young and old based on hit animated properties. Animation
Much of what the team at Funko does can be traced back to their love of Saturday Morning Cartoons (which would explain so many of those awesome Funko Cereal collectibles they were making for a while!). So the fact that they are producing plenty of collectibles based on animated properties should come as no surprise to anyone. Funko had quite a few great new collectibles based on both classic and modern animated licenses in the Funko Fair 2021 showcase that you’ll definitely want to add to your collection! Starting things off right for fans of old school Saturday Morning cartoons, Funko is bringing forth an often forgotten Hanna-Barbera icon to the POP! Vinyls line with Super Chicken!
If that somehow isn’t enough for you, they are also adding some more fan-favorite classic animation characters to their Funko Soda line! New additions include Rosie The Robot from The Jetsons, Fearless Leader from Rocky And Bullwinkle, and The Werewolf from Scooby Doo!
If you’re more into classic action animation, look no further! Funko continues their recently relaunched G.I. Joe series of POP! Vinyls in collaboration with Hasbro with a number of great new additions to the line. G.I. Joe fans can look forward to new versions of Snake Eyes and Stormshadow, plus our first ever POP! Vinyls of Scarlet and The Baroness! Snake Eyes will also have a Funko Shop exclusive variant that features a more modern look and includes Timber the wolf!
Perhaps the real icing on the cake for the G.I. Joe license is the release of the new Gamestop exclusive G.I. Joe Vs. Transformers Mystery Boxes! Each Mystery Box will include two POP! Vinyl figures, a keychain, and a pin set; all of which are exclusively available in these boxes. They also all come packaged inside an exclusive metal lunchbox! POP! Vinyls available in these Mystery Boxes include Duke and Cobra Commander from G.I. Joe, and Optimus Prime (Axe) and Megatron (Flail) from Transformers.
We already told you about the new Entertainment Earth exclusive 6″ Super Sized POP! Vinyl of Krang from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but wanted to make sure we mentioned him again here because he is absolutely one of the most fun POP! Vinyls in recent memory and has been on a lot of people’s wishlists for some time!
While it’s been off the air for quite some time, Avatar: The Last Airbender is more popular than ever! Funko is bringing back the popular license for a new series of their POP! Pins line with many of our favorite characters including Aang (with Chase variant), Katara, Sokka, and Appa!
For younger collectors, or people who are just fans of this iconic literary character, Funko has an all-new POP! Vinyl of Clifford The Big Red Dog! You can pick up the standard release of Clifford (who has his friend Emily packaged with him!) or a special Target exclusive Flocked variation of Clifford (sadly without Emily).
Another franchise people have been begging Funko to tackle for years is Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends. This year Funko has finally brought the Imaginary Friends from Foster’s Home to the POP! Vinyls line with new figures of Mac, Blu, and Eduardo (who also has a Flocked variant exclusively at Hot Topic).
We’re sure that kids will be excited to hear that the Minions are back with an all-new line for Minions: The Rise Of Gru! The film is getting an all-new wave of Mystery Minis and Pocket POP! Keychains, plus plenty of POP! Vinyl figures including Gru, Kevin, Bob, Otto, and Stuart! Speaking of Stuart, he will also be getting a 10″ Jumbo Sized POP! vinyl!
Finally, we have some great new POP! Vinyls from the world of Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland with new waves based on both Rick And Morty as well as Solar Opposites. New Rick And Morty pieces include Rick (with Glorzo), Morty (with Glorzo), Evil Morty, Queen Summer, and a 10″ Jumbo Sized POP! of Balthromaw the Dragon! There will also be an exclusive Rick available at Target and an exclusive Morty heading to the Funko Shop.
Meanwhile, Solar Opposites is kicking off its first wave of POP! Vinyls with figures of Terry, Korvo, Jesse, and Yumyulack!
