Rumor: Chris Pratt Inheriting ‘Indiana Jones’ From Harrison Ford

Yes, we know that the rumors of Chris Pratt taking over the Indiana Jones franchise are nothing new and have been debunked before (quite a while ago!), but new reports suggest he may be back in play to take up that iconic whip and fedora.

Disney and Lucasfilm recently reconfirmed their plans to bring the legendary Harrison Ford back to one of his most recognizable roles as the titular hero of Indiana Jones 5. While Ford would be back, franchise director Steven Spielberg will be stepping back into a producer role while James Mangold (Logan, Ford Vs Ferrari) takes over directing duties. Everything has been going according to plan, but now plans might be looking more into the future of the franchise.

According to known scooper Daniel Richtman, Lucasfilm is planning to use the currently untitled Indiana Jones 5 to set up Jurassic World star Chris Pratt as a younger version of Harrison Ford’s celebrated archeology professor with a knack for finding more trouble than ancient artifacts. The idea would be to use this film to pass to the proverbial torch and have Pratt carry the character over into future sequels.

Supposedly Lucasfilm has major plans for the brand, with Indiana Jones 5 rumored to be setting up further sequels, multiple spin-off films, a Disney+ live-action series, and even an animated show!

Daniel Richtman has often provided solid inside information in the past, but this is far from the first time Chris Pratt has been rumored to take over the Indiana Jones role. Harrison Ford, himself, has previously denied these claims, and producer Frank Marshall recently even said “There will only be one Indiana Jones and that’s Harrison Ford” in an interview with Den Of Geek.

Could this all just be a cover for their true plans? Or could it be Marshall playing coy, and maybe Pratt isn’t playing Indy? Theoretically, he could be playing an aged-up version of Mutt Williams, Indy’s son that we last saw in Indiana Jones And The Curse Of The Crystal Skull as played by Shia LaBeouf. They definitely seemed to be priming Mutt to take the reins of the franchise at some point in the future, but after LaBeouf soured his relationship with Steven Spielberg, it wouldn’t be a major stretch to see him recast with another big name.

Either way, the only thing confirmed as of the time of this writing is that the currently untitled Indiana Jones 5 starring Harrison Ford and directed by James Mangold is in development with Disney and Lucasfilm for release at some point in the future. Hopefully, we will have more information soon!
