Riddle me this boys and girls! Which major Batman villain has their very own flavor of Mountain Dew coming soon? Obviously, it’s the maniacal master of mysteries Edward Nygma, aka The Riddler!
In a move that is both fantastic and entirely unexpected, PepsiCo is reportedly releasing an all-new flavor of Mountain Dew inspired by one of DC Comics’ greatest criminal minds. The new flavor, named Mountain Dew Riddler’s Brew, is to be released alongside the theatrical run of The Batman in 2022 and is said to be inspired by the villain.
Images recently leaked on Reddit show off this new flavor as part of a marketing campaign for The Batman. The campaign will also feature characters from the film on bottles of regular Mountain Dew and Mountain Dew Zero Sugar in addition to this entirely new flavor.
The actual Mountain Dew Riddler’s Brew soda looks to be a dark blue color, while the bottle features a green cap. The character’s signature colors are generally green and purple, so the soda may end up being more of a purple coloration outside of these leaked promotional images.
Perhaps the biggest mystery here is what it will actually taste like? The coloration and name do not allude to what the flavor is actually supposed to be, leaving fans to speculate while we eagerly await its eventual release. The drink may be themed around The Riddler, but it’s certainly not leaving us many clues!
Edward Nygma, formerly Edward Nashton, is one of Batman’s greatest foes as The Riddler. Edward constantly feels like the smartest person in the room (and usually he is!) and has no problem making sure everyone knows it! His obsession with riddles and his superiority complex has led him to a life of crime that he doesn’t show much interest in walking away from.
Warner Bros The Batman from director Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes) is set to be the latest installment of the Batman film franchise and sees the brand rebooted once again. It was originally supposed to release in June 2021, but due to filming setbacks courtesy of the Covid-19 global pandemic, the film’s release has been delayed to March of 2022. Sadly that also likely means that Mountain Dew Riddler’s Brew has also been pushed back to tie in with the film’s release.
The Batman stars Robert Pattinson (The Lighthouse) as our titular hero Bruce Wayne/Batman, with an A-list supporting cast including Zoë Kravitz (X-Men: First Class) as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Colin Farrell (Daredevil) as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin, Andy Serkis (Black Panther) as Alfred Pennyworth, John Turturro (Transformers) as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard (Green Lantern) as District Attorney Gil Colson, Jeffrey Wright (Westworld) as James Gordon, and Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/The Riddler.
Hopefully, we will find out more information about this mysterious new Mountain Dew Riddler’s Brew sooner rather than later since we will have to wait until 2022 to actually try it!
