When Disney and Lucasfilm announced a slew of new Star Wars projects were in development a few weeks back at the Disney Investor Day presentation, people truly got excited about Star Wars again! Many of these projects featured characters or stories that fans already know, but one project stood out from the others shrouded by mystery: Star Wars: The Acolyte.

Very few real story details were given for this project beyond that it would be a “female-centric mystery-thriller” and that it was set during the end of the High Republic era of the Star Wars universe.

When Lucasfilm announced The Acolyte they were excited to share that the mastermind behind Netflix’s critically acclaimed Russian Doll, Leslye Headland, would be developing the series for the Disney+ streaming service. It has now been confirmed that Lucasfilm’s vice president of film development, Rayne Roberts, will be co-developing The Acolyte series alongside her.

It sounds like Headland will be taking the lead on developing the series while Roberts will be making sure it all actually works with Lucasfilm’s other projects. As Lucasfilm’s VP of film development, Roberts has plenty of experience with the Star Wars brand. She has previously been involved with every single Star Wars film since Disney bought Lucasfilm, and even worked as part of the Lucasfilm Story Group on Star Wars: Rebels.

This is just one of several new Star Wars projects that are set to take place during the High Republic, the first of which just released this month with the book Star Wars: Light of the Jedi from author Charles Soule.

The book was released on January 5, 2021, and officially kicks off the High Republic era of the Star Wars universe, giving fans an idea of what they might expect from future releases set during this time.

Below, you can check out a synopsis for Star Wars: Light of the Jedi, which is the first of many chapters of the Star Wars universe that is set during the High Republic era.

It is a golden age. Intrepid hyperspace scouts expand the reach of the Republic to the furthest stars, worlds flourish under the benevolent leadership of the Senate, and peace reigns, enforced by the wisdom and strength of the renowned order of Force users known as the Jedi. With the Jedi at the height of their power, the free citizens of the galaxy are confident in their ability to weather any storm But the even brightest light can cast a shadow, and some storms defy any preparation.

When a shocking catastrophe in hyperspace tears a ship to pieces, the flurry of shrapnel emerging from the disaster threatens an entire system. No sooner does the call for help go out than the Jedi race to the scene. The scope of the emergence, however, is enough to push even Jedi to their limit. As the sky breaks open and destruction rains down upon the peaceful alliance they helped to build, the Jedi must trust in the Force to see them through a day in which a single mistake could cost billions of lives.

Even as the Jedi battle valiantly against calamity, something truly deadly grows beyond the boundary of the Republic. The hyperspace disaster is far more sinister than the Jedi could ever suspect. A threat hides in the darkness, far from the light of the age, and harbors a secret that could strike fear into even a Jedi’s heart.

The book, Star Wars: The Light of the Jedi, was released on January 5, 2021, and is available in stores now.
