‘Loki’ Writer Michael Waldron Heading To Feige’s Top Secret ‘Star Wars’ Project

Loki Michael WaldronIn what sounds like a dream job for just about any nerd, writer and producer Michael Waldron looks to have been tapped by Disney to head off to a galaxy far, far, away to work on Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige‘s top secret Star Wars movie.

Deadline is reporting that their sources say that Emmy winner Michael Waldron has signed a massive overall deal with Disney that should keep him working with them for quite some time in a major way. Waldron recently wrote Doctor Strange: In The Multiverse Of Madness at Marvel Studios for director Sam Raimi, as well as creating, writing, and executive producing the new Marvel Studios Loki television series for the Disney+ streaming service. (Disney must really see something special in the work he has done so far to offer him such a rare deal.)

Aside from writing this new Star Wars film, which Marvel’s Kevin Feige is developing and producing for Lucasfilm and Disney alongside Kathleen Kennedy, Waldron is also expected to continue his work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It is highly likely that we will be seeing Waldron back writing and producing Loki Season 2, among other big-name projects under the Disney umbrella.

This project was first rumored in the fall of 2019 following the massive worldwide success of Avengers: Endgame and just prior to the underwhelming performance of Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. Michael Waldron being brought on to write the script is the first official piece of news that has come out about the film beyond the murmurs of it even actually being in development. With Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy looking to kick off a new era of Star Wars films following the finale of the Skywalker Saga, this new project from Kevin Feige and Michael Waldron might just be the perfect fit!

Feige is a massive Star Wars fan, and after spending a decade essentially running the overall Marvel Cinematic Universe, it makes sense that he may be looking to play in a new sandbox for a little while.

At their recent Investor Day presentation, Disney and Lucasfilm announced a number of new Star Wars projects including a number of new television series and an all-new Star Wars: Rogue Squadron film with Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins. Some fans found it odd that this mysterious Kevin Feige project was not listed among those that were announced, leading people to question if it was still happening or if Disney was just keeping it under wraps until it was further developed.

As Michael Waldron has only recently joined the project, this new Star Wars film with Kevin Feige is likely still quite some time away. There is no word as to where in the Star Wars timeline the story will be set, who might be cast in it, when it is set to start filming, or when fans can look forward to sitting down to watch it! Still, the news that Waldron has been brought on lets people know it is still in development and moving right along.

Disney declined to comment on this hiring news at this time.
