The London production of David Bowie’s musical Lazarus will stream for three performances this weekend (January 8 -10) to mark the late singer’s January 8 birthday and the fifth anniversary of his death on January 10. The performance stars Michael C. Hall (Dexter, Six Feet Under) and Sophia Anne Caruso (Broadway’s Beetlejuice) and was filmed during the show’s sold-out run at the King’s Cross Theatre in 2016.
Lazarus is the sequel to the 1976 movie The Man Who Fell To Earth, based on Walter Tevis’ 1963 novel of the same name. The film featured David Bowie in his first starring role in which he played Thomas Newton, an alien who comes to Earth to get water for his homeworld which is suffering a massive drought.
The musical, itself, takes place years after the events of The Man Who Fell To Earth and centers on Newton who is still on Earth. “A ‘man’ unable to die, his head soaked in cheap gin and haunted by a past love, we follow Newton during the course of a few days where the arrival of another lost soul – might set him finally free.” (Lazarus Musical)
Hall plays the part of Newton in the musical. He not only starred in the London production of the play but in the New York production as well, along with Broadway stars Caruso and Michael Esper (American Idiot).

Lazarus was one of the last projects Bowie finished before his death in 2016 and premiered at the New York Theatre Workshop. Classic Bowie songs such as “Life on Mars,” “Changes,” “All The Young Dudes,” and “Heroes” are featured. In addition, Bowie wrote four new songs specifically for the project.
The London production will stream for three performances, however, it will not be on demand. Dice FM will broadcast Lazarus in the U.S. on Jan. 8 and 9 at 6 pm PT/9 pm ET and on Jan. 10 at 1 pm PT/4 pm ET. After January 10, the show won’t be available. Information and Tickets can be found here.
