Universal’s vision for these creatures is often hailed as the epitome of horror monster classics, and these films have influenced much of the horror cinema that came after them. Bela Lugosi as Dracula! Boris Karloff as Frankenstein’s monster! Lon Chaney as the Wolf Man! It’s hard to imagine a world in which these iconic characters are not portrayed by these just-as-iconic actors. It’s also no understatement to say that these films changed the way we think of these monsters and invented the genre of horror for cinema to begin with.
