The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been going strong for twelve years now with its thirteenth year of existence just on the horizon. With over a decade of content including twenty-three films and twelve television series (which were produced by Marvel Television and aren’t technically considered canon anymore, but are still mostly enjoyable) already released, plus another ten movies and a dozen more television shows (which will be considered canon as they are being produced by Marvel Studios) in various stages of development, there is a lot of ground to cover for fans who want to keep up to date on all of the happenings across the MCU. That is where Disney and Marvel’s latest Disney+ original series Marvel Studios: Legends comes in!

This new series will act as a bit of a refresher for people, giving them a chance to play catch up. While plenty of us are die hard fans, not everyone has the time to rewatch these films frequently and remember who is who from fifteen movies ago. For casual viewers looking in, this is a lot to remember and follow! And that is exactly why Marvel Studios: LEGENDS is the perfect companion series for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As the MCU has completed the Infinity Saga that spanned across the first twenty-three films and is preparing to head into Phase 4, Disney and Marvel Studios is planning on bringing back their long-forgotten motto of “it’s all connected.” There will be a number of new television series that tie into the movie continuity and feature intertwining stories with one another. This means we are going to be looking at a very different kind of synergy within the larger MCU starting in early 2021 with the premiere of Wandavision. Here is the official synopsis from Disney for Marvel Studios: LEGENDS:

As the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to expand, Marvel Studios: Legends celebrates and codifies what has come before. Revisit the epic heroes, villains, and moments from across the MCU in preparation for the highly anticipated stories still to come. Each dynamic segment feeds directly into the upcoming series premiering on Disney+ — setting the stage for future events. Marvel Studios: Legends weaves together the many threads that constitute the unparalleled Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marvel Studios: LEGENDS will spend each episode showcasing a different individual character from the larger MCU and touch on some of their important character moments across the films we have seen them in so far. The series is exclusive to the Disney+ streaming service and is set to kick things off on January 8, 2021, with two episodes.

These first episodes are said to focus on the heroes from the first of Marvel Studios’ new television slate, Wandavision, with an episode focusing on Wanda Maximoff (aka Scarlet Witch, played by Elizabeth Olsen) and The Vision (played by Paul Bettany). Both of these episodes are coming to Disney+ on January 8, 2021, just one week ahead of the premiere of Wandavision itself on January 15, 2021. Check out a synopsis for each below:

“Wanda Maximoff’: Wanda Maximoff made her debut in Avengers: Age of Ultron as a powerful adversary of The Avengers, only to become an even more powerful ally. Wanda found strength in herself and in her extraordinary relationship with one highly unique individual, Vision. Marvel Studios: Legends explores Wanda’s story as she grapples with cruel hardships and loss, a chaotic power that she strives to control, and shifting loyalties from those she trusts most.

“Vision”: Born into the world in Avengers: Age of Ultron Vision chooses to fight on the side of humanity, though he himself is an artificial form of life. Marvel Studios: Legends follows Vision on his quest to understand humans more fully, evolving to be more like them, as he explores a romantic relationship with Wanda Maximoff in Captain America: Civil War. All of this leads to his final moments, as he makes the ultimate sacrifice for mankind, leaving those he loved to an uncertain future.

WandaVision will bring back several familiar faces from the MCU including Kat Dennings as Darcy (last seen in 2013’s Thor: The Dark World) and Randall Park as Agent Jimmy Woo (last seen in 2018’s Ant-Man And The Wasp), plus new additions including Kathryn Hahn as Agnes, Fred Melamed as Mr. Heart, and Debra Jo Rupp as Mrs, Heart. We even see a new version of a character we have seen before with Teyonah Parris appearing as Monica Rambeau. Rambeau was last seen as a small child in 2019’s Captain Marvel where she was played by Akira Akbar. Wandavision will premiere exclusively on Disney+ on January 15, 2021 and will run for eight weeks.
