Get ready for the F-Bombs to drop.

The new series, History of Swear Words shows that when it comes to profanity, Netflix and Nicholas Cage don’t f@%k around.

Just this week, Netflix released a new trailer for the series where the Academy Award-winning actor hosts. Over six episodes Cage and a team of linguists, historians, and experts explore the etymology, usage, and impact of those four-letter words that George Carlin famously told us couldn’t be said on TV.

Cage shows why he’s the man for the job by sharing his favorite obscenity at full volume in the trailer.  This after already releasing a teaser where Cage recites an ode to a particular word all while he paints, revealing a flower at the end.

“It also could be a cat,” he quips.

Swear words, there the most popular and alluring taboos we have, But the secrets to their strange power have been shrouded in mystery, until now.

In this comedic look at language, Nicholas Cage and company look at the “innately human” use of profanity.  And the effects it has had on culture.

“Words don’t start out as swear words, they’re just words.”  How did they become swears?   That is what the six episodes series will explore.  “Who decided these are bad words?” will be just one of the questions asked. Words like “f—,” “s—,” “bitch,” “d—,” “p—y,” and “damn” among others.  Entertainers and comedians like Sarah Silverman, Nick Offerman, Isiah Whitlock Jr, and Nikki Glaser help try to find the answers.

The series will even go into the psychological effects of the act of swearing, including the theory that people can withstand pain longer by swearing.  (Which I always thought was common knowledge.)  So be sure to tune in and  “get f—ed.”

History of Swear Words drops on Netflix on Tuesday, January 5.
