HBO Max’s Peacemaker series, starring John Cena has added four new cast members– Chukwudi Iwuji, Lochlyn Munro, Annie Chang, and Christopher Heyerdahl. While their characters’ names have been revealed, it does not appear that any of them are existing characters in DC Comics. Cena’s Peacemaker will make his debut in The Suicide Squad, the upcoming not-a-sequel film which is due to hit theaters (maybe) next August. Steve Agee was previously announced as playing John Economos, the warden of Belle Reve prison.
Iwuji is playing Clemson Murn and will be a series regular. Meanwhile, Munro’s character is named Larry Fitzgibbon, Chang’s is Detective Sophie Song, and Heyerdahl’s is Captain Locke.
John Ostrander, who wrote the Suicide Squad comic book makes a cameo in The Suicide Squad as “Doctor Fitzgibbon,” so it’s possible that Munro is playing the same character on the small screen, or may be playing a relative.
Nigerian-born Iwuji may be recognized for playing Dr. Eli Mays on Netflix’s Designated Survivor. More recently, he co-starred on Sundance’s The Split. Among his other credits are John Wick: Chapter 2, Madame Secretary, Barry, Quantico, When They See Us, and Dynasty.
Munro may be best known for playing Betty’s (hot) dad, Hal Cooper on Riverdale. More recently, he popped up as Martin Cross on The Good Doctor. He also appeared as Jeff/Jack Sheridan on Charmed (the original), as Mark Simms on True Justice, and in the movie White Chicks. He guest-starred on the original CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, as well as CSI: Miami and CSI: NY, playing different characters in each, mind you.
Chang may be best known for playing Molly Chen on Shades of Blue. She has also appeared on One Life to Live, The Carrie Diaries, Master of None, Bosch, The First Wives Club, and Grey’s Anatomy.
Heyerdahl is the lead on the upcoming Amazon Prime Video series Them: Covenant. He also played Sam on Van Helsing. He recently appeared on Star Trek: Discovery, 50 Nights of Frights, Project Blue Book, Pure, Deadly Class, and more.
James Gunn wrote and directed The Suicide Squad, and it was announced in September that he will reprise both jobs on The Peacemaker, which is said to be about “a man who believes in peace at any cost — no matter how many people he has to kill to get it.” Gunn will also serve as executive producer, along with Peter Safran who is EP-ing The Suicide Squad. Cena will act as co-executive producer of The Peacemaker.
It hasn’t yet been revealed when The Peacemaker will arrive on HBO Max, but it will obviously be after The Suicide Squad debuts. That film is expected to arrive on August 6.
