Jeff Goldblum Says ‘Jurassic World: Dominion’ Is More Relevant Than Ever Amid Pandemic

The Jurassic World franchise tells a story of chaos made reality as previously extinct species find their place in a modern world following the downfall of the ‘Jurassic World’ theme park (which itself was built from the original plans for the ‘Jurassic Park’ theme park, which fell to ruin more than twenty years prior in-universe). It’s a story about science gone horribly wrong when people are more focused on if they could do something than if they should even do it to begin with.

The latest film in the Jurassic World film series, titled Jurassic World: Dominion, recently wrapped filming amid several starts and stops throughout production due to the global pandemic.

One of the film’s stars, Jeff Goldblum, recently expressed that the film had in fact been “tweaked” and adjusted due to the pandemic the real world is facing. In an interview with EW, Goldblum discussed his time with the dinosaur-filled Jurassic franchise, and how the latest film carries an important message about the need to trust in science to save us from the ongoing dangers Covid-19 presents us with:

There are things that my character talks about, has always talked a little bit about, the fragility of our species and the global cooperation that’s needed and the foundation and science that is needed. Oh, and the ethical use of science that’s needed to unite us in trust and connectedness as a family. To reach our potential and do right by ourselves and this glorious planet — all of that.

So all of those things are now as you can imagine more relevant than ever. In many aspects of this plot, there are other things we’re kind of finding that are kind of apropos, but there are some sensitive things they are tweaking and adjusting to make it right for now, and contributive and nourishing for right now.

In times of Covid, the filming of any movie or television series becomes a dangerous game of taking proper precautions to ensure that everyone involved is safe. It seems especially fitting that Jurassic World: Dominion, a film built around the hazards of lapsed safety protocols, should have something to say on the matter.

Jurassic World: Dominion is the third film in the Jurassic World franchise, while simultaneously being the sixth film in the overarching Jurassic Park franchise that spans all the way back to 1993. It is expected to follow up on the ending of the previous film in the franchise, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and expand upon those events featuring dinosaurs now loose and roaming freely on the mainland United States and beyond.

The film stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, B.D. Wong, Justice Smith, Daniella Pineda, Isabella Sermon, Jake Johnson, and Omar Sy reprising their roles from the previous Jurassic World films. It also reunites Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum from the original Jurassic Park film; marking the first time the trio has been reunited on screen since 1993. We also have Campbell Scott joining the cast and taking over the role of Lewis Dodson, who was last seen in the original Jurassic Park film.

As of the time of this writing, Colin Trevorrow’s Jurassic World: Dominion is set to release on June 10, 2022.
