Rumors recently began circulating on social media that Warner Bros is keen to reboot their popular Green Arrow character already after their hit television series Arrow wrapped up its eighth and final season earlier this year. While it’s entirely possible that these rumors of a more comic accurate reboot of the character may yet hit the mark, we can at least confirm that they won’t be coming true in Writer/Director James Gunn’s upcoming Peacemaker series on HBO Max!

Gunn recently took to Twitter in response to a fan who presented him with the rumor of a new take on the Emerald Archer appearing in the upcoming series, only to dash any hopes of this happening. “It’s nonsense” Gunn assured his followers.

This new action-comedy series, which was announced back in September 2020, is a spinoff of Gunn’s upcoming reboot/sequel The Suicide Squad. Peacemaker is an all-new prequel story that will follow John Cena’s Peacemaker character that will be debuting in The Suicide Squad next year. He is “a man who believes in peace at any cost — no matter how many people he has to kill to get it”. Gunn, who is also an executive producer for the series, is writing all eight episodes of the show that will stream exclusively on HBO Max, with plans to direct several of them as well. The Peacemaker series is currently in production.

DC Comics Green Arrow was most recently seen played by Stephen Amell on the hit CW series Arrow, which kicked off the “CW-Verse” (which until recently had been referred to as “The Arrowverse”) of superhero shows that includes fan favorites like The Flash, Supergirl, Legends Of Tomorrow, and more! As mentioned earlier, the show just finished up its eight-season run in January of this year. Its entirely possible that Warner Bros may want to “strike while the iron is still hot” with the character’s popularity, considering that even Arrow was itself the result of them doing just that based on how well Green Arrow was received when he appeared on the series Smallville; which ended in 2011, just a year ahead of Arrow‘s premiere.

Are you hoping to see a newly rebooted live-action take on Green Arrow sooner rather than later? Or would you rather the character hang up his quiver for a while?
