Several new cast members have been added to the upcoming fourth season of Netflix’s Stranger Things, and among them is Freddy Krueger himself, Robert Englund. The show frequently features familiar faces from the era in which it is set– the 80s. Winona Ryder, of course, stars as Joyce Beyers, and she made a name for herself in vintage films like Heathers, Beetlejuice, and Edward Scissorhands. Matthew Modine starred in the likes of Full Metal Jacket, and Vision Quest, and recurs on Stranger Things as Dr. Martin Brenner. Goonies star Sean Astin portrayed Joyce’s boyfriend, Bob Newby in Season 2, and My Two Dads’ Paul Reiser co-starred as Brenner’s replacement, Sam Owens.
In addition to Englund, Stranger Things 4 has added Jamie Campbell Bower (The Twilight Saga), Eduardo Franco (Booksmart), and Joseph Quinn (Catherine the Great) in series regular roles, and Tom Wlaschiha (Game of Thrones), Nikola Djuricko (Hollands Hoop), Mason Dye (Bosch), and Sherman Augustus (Into the Badlands) in recurring roles.
Englund will play Victor Creel, “a disturbed and intimidating man who is imprisoned in a psychiatric hospital for a gruesome murder in the 1950s.” (via The Hollywood Reporter) Bower portrays Peter Ballard, “a caring man who works as an orderly at a psychiatric hospital. Tired of the brutality he witnesses day after day, Peter may be poised to take a stand.” Franco will appear as Argyle, “a fun-loving stoner who works at Surfer Boy Pizza,” while Quinn will portray Eddie Munson, “a metalhead who runs local Dungeons & Dragons club called The Hellfire Club.” It seems that Eddie will be an important figure, as he is described as being “at the terrifying epicenter of this season’s mystery.”
Wlaschiha will play Dimitri, “a Russian prison guard who befriends Hopper (David Harbour). He’s smart, cunning, and charming, but can he be trusted?” Djuricko plays Yuri, “a seedy and unpredictable Russian smuggler who loves bad jokes, cold hard cash, and crunchy peanut butter.” Dye will portray Jason Carver, “a rich sports star whose perfect world begins to unravel in the face of a new evil,” and finally, Augustus depicts Lt. Colonel Sullivan, “a no-nonsense man who believes he knows how to stop the evil in Hawkins once and for all.”
These new additions join the existing cast of Ryder, Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Cara Buono, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Joe Keery, Maya Hawke, Priah Ferguson, and Brett Gelman. Part of Season 4 was filmed before production shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was not announced when the new season would resume filming or be released.
