As part of Netflix’s TUDUM virtual fan event, the streaming service has ramped up its promotions for The Witcher Season 2. Prepare to return to The Continent with Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Freya Allen as Ciri, Anya Calotra as Yennifer, and Joey Batey as Jaskier.

Convinced Yennefer’s life was lost at the Battle of Sodden, Geralt of Rivia brings Princess Cirilla to the safest place he knows, his childhood home of Kaer Morhen. While the Continent’s kings, elves, humans, and demons strive for supremacy outside its walls, he must protect the girl from something far more dangerous: the mysterious power she possesses inside.

Season 2 arrives in December, but Netflix took advantage of its TUDUM event to help stoke fans’ fires. First, the service released a trailer, which mixes footage from both Seasons 1 and 2. While a trailer with all-new footage would have probably been preferable, keep in mind, the first season premiered about two years ago in December 2019. So some viewers may need a recap to jog their memories.

But there IS some new footage, so check out the new trailer below:

As is the case with a lot of trailers, it’s hard to tell what’s happening in this one. It’s pretty much all quick-cuts with non sequitur snippets of dialogue.

But Netflix’s two other offerings may shed more light on the upcoming episodes. Among the new characters that will be introduced is Nivellen, played by Kristofer Hivju (Tormund Giantsbane in Game of Thrones), a former highwayman who was cursed by a priestess and took on a monstrous form. The character first appeared in the short story “A Grain of Truth” from the book The Last Wish.

Check out his live-action debut in the clip below:

The next clip is more of a tease as it builds up to what will surely be another of The Witcher‘s signature battles.  Unfortunately, the clip ends just before that. But check it out anyway:

The Witcher Season 2 will consist of eight episodes and will be released on December 17, 2021. Netflix has already renewed the series for a third season.
