Fire is coming. HBO Max’s Game of Thrones spinoff, House of the Dragon just released a new trailer. The new series tells the story of the Targaryen dynasty, set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones.

This peak at the upcoming fantasy series shows King Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine) taking the Iron Throne. We get glimpses of the eldest child, Princess Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy), the Dragonrider, and his younger brother and heir apparent, Prince Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith). Check out the trailer below:

Also in the trailer, we see Viserys’ Hand of the King, Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans), and Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), Otto’s daughter. Her friendship with Rhaenyra will play an important part in the story as we will see from its early days (played by younger actors Milly Alcock and Emily Carey) leading up to the events of the series. Readers of the fantasy novel series already know how it plays out. Also in the trailer, we get a look at Lord Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint), a/k/a the Sea Snake. Lord Corlys is one of the most famous nautical adventurers in Westeros history.

The trailer introduces four new cast members to the series.  Wil Johnson (Outlander) plays Ser Vaemond Velaryon, younger brother to Lord Corlys and commander in the Velaryon navy. Also confirmed are John Macmillan (The Nevers), Savannah Steyn (Intergalactic), and Theo Nate as Ser Laenor Velaryon, Lady Laena Velayron, and Ser Laenor Velaryon respectively. The trio are the children of the Sea Snake and King Viserys’ sister, Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best). Rhaenys was passed over for the Iron Throne in favor of Viserys simply for being born a woman.

‘House Of The Dragon,’ based on the novels from George RR Martin arrives on HBO Max in 2022.
