Annual Black Friday sales are a retail worker’s worst nightmare, so it was only a matter of time before someone took that idea literally and turned the most horrific annual day of retail shopping and turned it into a horror movie, right?

Just before the film made its world premiere at Fantastic Fest 2021, it was announced that director Casey Tebo’s new horror-comedy Black Friday (2021) had officially been picked up by Screen Media. Variety is reporting that the film will see a day-and-date wide release in just a few short weeks, dropping sometime this November both theatrically and on video-on-demand streaming platforms.

Black Friday stars genre favorites like Bruce Campbell, Devon Sawa, and Michael Jai White in an all-new horror-comedy that is set to hit too close to home for plenty of retail workers worldwide. The film’s synopsis says “On the busiest shopping night of the year, a group of disgruntled toy store employees must defend themselves from legions of holiday shoppers when a mysterious alien parasite turns them into monstrous creatures hell-bent on a murderous rampage.”

Director Casey Tebo is a fan of holiday-themed horror and certainly seems excited about the project, saying:

“When Andy sent me this script, it was such a blast! It reminded me of some of my favorite holiday horror movies like Gremlins or Krampus. I could see myself running to a midnight showing to see this with other horror fans, and at the same time, I could see my kids watching it at a sleepover with their friends. It’s imaginative, original, scary, fun, and the right bit of ridiculous – and that’s all the things I want to see in a movie!”

In addition to Campbell, Sawa, and White, Black Friday‘s cast also includes Ivana Baquero, Ryan Lee, Mark Steger, and Lonnie Farmer. While an official wide release date has not yet been set, we can certainly look forward to celebrating the season this year with what looks to be the first of many annual viewings. A full trailer for the film is expected to drop in the coming weeks.
