The planet Earth has been ravaged by COVID-19 since early 2020. However, the effects of the virus have been felt all over the galaxy. One casualty was the USS Orville, which has been forced to stay docked until it has been deemed safe for their exploratory missions to continue. But it looks like the crew will be welcomed aboard to travel the cosmos once again very soon.

In other words, it looks as if we finally have an update on the third season of The Orville. Now going by The Orville: New Horizons, the live-action sci-fi series from creator and star Seth MacFarlane is scheduled to take off on Hulu on March 10, 2022, nearly three years after the Season Two finale. The streamer also dropped a fresh teaser on their YouTube channel to celebrate the news:

Additionally, here’s the official synopsis for the latest original series to find new life thanks to a streaming service:

Seth MacFarlane’s epic space adventure series “The Orville” returns exclusively as a Hulu original series. Set 400 years in the future, “The Orville: New Horizons” finds the crew of the U.S.S. Orville continuing their mission of exploration, as they navigate both the mysteries of the universe and the complexities of their own interpersonal relationships.

Previously, once the second season wrapped up on Fox in April 2019, it was set to debut on Hulu in late 2020. However, the pandemic caused production to slow down and even halt entirely during that year. Production finally wrapped on August 11, 2021, so now the streamer is ready to show off their new toys.

Speaking of new, the cast will welcome 13 Reasons Why star Anne Winters and Eliza Taylor from The 100 to the cast for Season Three. They will join returning cast members MacFarlane, Adrianne Palicki, Jessica Szohr, Penny Johnson Jerald, Scott Grimes, Peter Macon, J. Lee, Mark Jackson, and Chad L. Coleman. And Deadline reports that the late Norm MacDonald, who recently passed away after a battle with cancer, will reprise his role as the gelatinous, shapeshifting engineer Lieutenant Yaphit for the final time in the upcoming season.
