Netflix has announced that Cobra Kai is getting a 5th season. The news shouldn’t be a surprise considering how well the series has been doing. Cobra Kai became one of ‘Netflix’s Top 10 viewed shows of 2020’ within the first week of arriving. Season 3 aired earlier this year and immediately skyrocketed to Number 1 on the streaming platform.
The series had originally debuted on YouTube Red in 2018. However, the platform chose to go in another direction after Season 2. No longer getting involved with ‘scripted series,’ they left Cobra Kai’s fate in the air. The series found a new home on Netflix after some “shopping around.”
Cobra Kai is a continuation of The Karate Kid movies starring Ralph Macchio and William Zabka. The movie spawned 3 sequels and became a household name.
The Netflix series takes us back to the Valley 34 years after ‘the crane kick heard round the Valley’ took place. Now fathers, Daniel and Johnny do whatever they can to stop their children from following in their footsteps. Unfortunately, they also realize that their rivalry is far from finished.
In the original movies when Daniel needed guidance, he would ask his Sensei, Mr. Miyagi. Now, when the adult Daniel needs guidance, he thinks back to old lessons Mr. Miyagi taught him.
Ralph Macchio, William Zabka, Mary Mouser, Xolo Maridueña, Tanner Buchanan, Peyton List, and Martin Cove are all returning for Season 5. This season we get Thomas Ian Griffiths reprising his role as Terry Silver, the ‘villain’ in Karate Kid 3.
Now that a 5th season is confirmed, fans wonder who else will return to the Valley. There are rumors that Hillary Swanks’ Julie Pierce will return. She took over from Ralph Macchio in the 4th Karate Kid film titled The Next Karate Kid.
Season 4 of Cobra Kai will begin streaming on Netflix sometime in December of 2021.
