Netflix Officially Orders A Sequel To ‘Enola Holmes’

Millie Bobby Brown In Netflix's Enola Holmes

Netflix has finally ordered a sequel to Enola Holmes, with Millie Bobby Brown and Henry Cavill set to return in their roles as Enola and Sherlock Holmes, respectively. The first film also starred Sam Claflin as their older brother, Mycroft, and Helena Bonham Carter as their mother, Eudoria. It was created as a theatrical film, but after COVID-19 shut down cinemas, Netflix snapped up the rights. (Brown is, of course, the star of Netflix’s biggest show, Stranger Things.)

The film was a solid hit and received excellent reviews. Normally, Netflix would have ordered a sequel right away, but a threatened lawsuit by the Arthur Conan Doyle estate (the creator of Sherlock Holmes) delayed that.

But it appears that has been smoothed over and Netflix officially announced the sequel on Twitter:

Brown reacted to the announcement with a simple picture from the set of the first film:

Previously, Brown stated that she was hoping to return to the role of Enola in future films, saying:

“I love that I can continually play her, and with the Enola book series… I really am optimistic about the future. I’m so looking forward to [hopefully] getting back to work.”

Also returning from the first film are director Harry Bradbeer and writer Jack Thorne. Both the first movie and the sequel are based on YA novels by Nancy Springer.

Sleuthing runs in the family as the first film followed Enola as she journeyed to London in search of her mother who had run off to join a suffragette group. Enola winds up solving a crime involving a teenage boy, Tewkesbury (Louis Partridge), before her famous older brother, Sherlock could show up. At the end of the movie, Enola is essentially on her own to embark on more adventures.

Now fans can be assured that they will get to see at least one more! Considering that Netflix has just ordered the sequel, it will be a while before this flick materializes.

Were you a fan of the first Enola Holmes?  Are you excited that a sequel is on its way?
