Disney+’s upcoming Marvel series Moon Knight has added its second cast member, with Ramy star, May Calamawy, joining in a “key role.” She, of course, joins Oscar Isaac, who will portray the mysterious lead superhero, who is notable for having Dissociative Identity Disorder and multiple “secret identities.”

Calamawy was born in Bahrain and portrayed Dena, the sister of the title character in Hulu’s Ramy. She previously starred in the miniseries The Long Road Home, and she will be seen in the upcoming romantic comedy Together Together starring Ed Helms and Patti Harrison.

Egyptian filmmaker Mohamed Diab (Clash) serves as showrunner. The Umbrella Academy’s Jeremy Slater heads up the writers’ room. It was just announced that indie helmers Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead (The Endless, Synchronic) would also direct an undisclosed number of episodes, along with Diab.

The first Marvel series to hit Disney+ is WandaVision, which debuts on Friday. That will be followed by The Falcon and the Winter SoldierLoki, and HawkeyeMoon Knight is part of the second wave which also includes She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel. A third wave has already been announced, including IronheartArmor Wars, and Secret Invasion.

Marc Spector aka Moon Knight was a Jewish-American former US Marine turned C.I.A. agent. After leaving both organizations in disgrace he became a soldier of fortune. He was left for dead in the desert, on a mercenary mission in Egypt, where an idol of the Egyptian moon god; Khonshu, saved him and gave him his moon-based powers. Returning to the US with a newfound lease on life he took up multiple identities such as “Steven Grant”, and “Jake Lockley” to fight crime which, when alongside childhood trauma, also caused him to lapse back into Dissociative Identity Disorder. It isn’t clear when Moon Knight will hit Disney+, but it likely won’t be this year.  But check back for new details as they arrive.
